Greetings friend,

Sending all positive wishes for your well-being.

As we continue to face many challenges, I urge you to double down on your self-care. Give YOURSELF the resources that you need to be the support for all those that you are about. Keep in mind that SELF-CARE is the opposite of selfish. When you prioritize your self-care and nourish yourself with the love and support that you need, you have that much more to give in every other aspect of your life. With that, I offer a few ways to nurture you in this newsletter.

1. BETTER SLEEP – deep restoration occurs only with sleep. This is the only time our brain is flooded with chemicals that renew and repair, that cells in our body have a chance to restore and we genuinely rejuvenate ourselves. Remember the old saying, ‘Don’t forget your beauty sleep!’? It’s wisdom in action.

2. MEDITATIONS FOR COMPASSION AND EQUANIMITY – as we face the challenge of difficult emotions stimulated by the turbulent times in which we live, meditations that offer self-compassion, compassion for others and for equanimity can be helpful. Equanimity is the ability to access that deep well of inner calm amid the storm. Allowing difficult emotions to arise and go and resting in that place of deep inner peace can be restorative. A few minutes can go a long way.

I am leading guided meditations in The Wellness Sensei Dojo on a weekly basis and invite you to join us there. These meditations are no longer than 15 minutes.

TIPS FOR IMPROVING SLEEP AND WAKEFULNESS

New insight into the power of circadian rhythms reveals several helpful ways to improve sleep and wakefulness. Use these simple adjustments to feel better, have more energy, be more productive and improve quantity and quality of sleep—all great ways to live happier.

Your circadian rhythm refers to your innate 24-hour body clock. You function best when this body clock is stable. Due to our connection with nature, light is one of the most powerful regulators of this clock. Use light exposure in positive ways and manage stimulants.

1. Seek light exposure first thing in the morning. As soon as you wake up, expose yourself to natural sunlight or bright indoor light. This helps to energize you for your day.
